Trail running at 10,000ft is breathtaking...

The views and the (relative) lack of oxygen. To no one’s surprise there is a huge difference running up here versus the 45 feet above sea level where I normally run in Houston. We are renting a house outside Breckenridge for a couple of weeks to beat the Houston heat, and it is amazing.

As for running, it isn’t just the elevation, it is the change in elevation- no real hills in Houston. The most I get is running back up to street level after the path goes down by the bayou.

Anytime I hike above 8k feet I always find myself winded quite easily and need to slow down.

Enjoy the time up there - I’m seriously missing Colorado, I usually head there each summer once or twice for vacation.

Breck is awesome, enjoy!

And yes, 10,000ft  will kick your butt if you’re not used to it!

One year I decided to do my marathon training  18 miler on the trail around Lake Dillon. Relatively flat, at least, but it did not go well.

This trail is pretty flat for the area, so it will be my go-to route for the rest of the time we are here.

When the pie finishes cooking, I’ll go running too. Really. Probably. I plan to. I might. Well, I’ll at least go for a walk. To get a beer, from the fridge, unless my wife is willing to get it for me. She is so nice to me.

What’s on tv now?

I’m already back and have a beer in hand, watching a virtual happy hour (Texas Country artist Josh Grid er if you are interested).

Have you been camping? It's in-tents!

Enjoy your decreased partial pressure of oxygen while you're here. It comes with low humidity and increased skin cancer risk too. If you're lucky, you might get a nice thunderstorm where the temp in Breck gets down to 50°F. But seriously, enjoy your time in the High Country.

That running show... it always gets my BP up and my pulse pounding.  Oh. Wait... what’s that on the Food Network?

What trail running shoes do you use?

If you haven’t tried it, I recommend getting a Bison Ribeye from Ted’s Montana Grill on you way back through Denver area .

I don't run on real trails enough to have trail specific shoes.  I'm a Nike person, mostly the Pegasus series.
